LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of famed singer and songwriter
Glenn Frey
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay trib-
ute to those individuals whose commitment and creative talents have
contributed to the entertainment and cultural enrichment of their commu-
nity and the entire State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Glenn Frey, singer, songwriter, and co-founder of the legend-
ary rock group the Eagles died on Monday, January 18, 2016, in New York
City, at the age of 67; and
WHEREAS, Glenn Lewis Frey was born on November 6, 1948, and was raised
in suburban Detroit; and
WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Glenn Frey was a resident of Tribe-
ca; and
WHEREAS, Glenn Frey originally studied piano, but after seeing The
Beatles perform live, he quickly switched to guitar and joined a local
band; and
WHEREAS, Glenn Frey's first big break came in 1967, when Bob Seger
wrote two songs for Glenn's band, the Mushrooms; and
WHEREAS, In 1969, Glenn Frey moved to Los Angeles, where he met Don
Henley, Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon to form the Eagles; and
WHEREAS, The Eagles first album in 1972 had three top 40 hits: "Take
It Easy", "Witchy Woman", and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and their second
album contained such favorites as "Desperado" and "Tequila Sunrise"; and
WHEREAS, The Eagles greatest commercial success came in 1976 with the
release of "Hotel California", which sold 16 million copies, and was
ranked No. 37 in Rolling Stone's 2012 list of the 500 greatest albums of
all time; and
WHEREAS, The song "Hotel California" was ranked No. 49 in Rolling
Stone's 2011 list of the Top 500 songs of all time; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of their career, Glenn Frey and the Eagles
sold more than 100 million albums worldwide; won six Grammys and five
American Music Awards; were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
in 1998; and were scheduled to be given the Kennedy Center Honors in
2015; and
WHEREAS, After the breakup of the Eagles in 1980, Glenn Frey became a
successful solo artist, releasing Top 40 hits "The Heat Is On", "You
Belong To The City" and "True Love"; and
WHEREAS, Glenn Frey also appeared as an actor in such works as "Miami
Vice", "Arli$$", "Let's Get Harry", and "Jerry Maguire"; and
WHEREAS, A man of great talent, Glenn Frey is survived by his wife,
Cindy, and their three children, Taylor, Deacon, and Otis; while he will
be missed by his family, his fans and all who knew him, the mark he left
on our lives will never leave; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of famed singer and songwriter Glenn Frey; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Glenn Frey.
