LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Janet Silver upon the occasion of her
designation as President of the Albany County Bar Foundation
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Janet Silver has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Janet Silver
upon the occasion of her designation as President of the Albany County
Bar Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Ogdensburg, New York, Janet Silver
attended the University of Vermont; she went on to earn her J.D. from
Albany Law School, during which time she worked at Galvin and Morgan, as
well as Rowley, Forrest, O'Donnell and Beaumont; and
WHEREAS, Janet Silver, the immediate Past President of the Albany
County Bar Association, is the youngest woman to lead the organization
in its 115-year history; she is also a principal with Hinman Straub,
where she has practiced for for the past 12 years, focusing on educa-
tion, economic development, health, human services and research; and
WHEREAS, President of the Albany County Bar Foundation, the charitable
arm of the Albany County Bar Association, Janet Silver has devoted much
of her time and energies to the legal education aspect of the community;
she is also a steadfast advocate for the furtherance of social justice
and legal services for the indigent; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as President of the Albany County Bar Founda-
tion, Janet Silver has served with loyalty, honor and distinction, earn-
ing her the admiration, esteem and affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, An active member of the Albany County Bar Association, Janet
Silver currently serves on its Appeals Screening Committee and oversees
the Association's Pro Bono Programs; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Janet Silver has held various positions such as
Treasurer and Co-Chair of the Young Lawyers Committee, and Chair of the
Committee on Continuing Legal Education as well as the Committee on
Public Policy; she is also a delegate to the New York State Bar Associ-
ation and a member of the Government Law Center of Albany Law School;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Janet Silver has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Janet Silver has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Janet Silver upon the occasion of her designation as President
of the Albany County Bar Foundation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Janet Silver.
