LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Manni and Dayna Scarso upon the occasion
of their designation for special recognition by the Federation of Itali-
an-American Organizations of Brooklyn, Ltd. on April 3, 2016
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Manni and Dayna Scarso have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Manni and
Dayna Scarso upon the occasion of their designation for special recogni-
tion by the Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Brooklyn,
Ltd., to be celebrated at its 39th Annual Fund Raising Gala on Sunday,
April 3, 2016, at El Caribe Country Club, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Manni and Dayna Scarso have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Manni and Dayna Scarso are the co-founders of Pietro's Fight,
an organization they launched to raise awareness and funds for Duchenne
Muscular Dystrophy in 2012, less than one year after their son, Pietro
Joseph Scarso, was diagnosed with this fatal genetic disorder; and
WHEREAS, Since the inception of this vital organization, Manni and
Dayna Scarso have been tirelessly dedicated to fundraising and spreading
awareness to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy; and
WHEREAS, Manni Scarso is a first generation Italian-American who lived
in Brooklyn but spent his summers in Pozzallo, Sicily; as co-founder of
Jets.com, a private aviation company, he is one of the industry's fast-
est growing jet brokers; and
WHEREAS, A Brooklyn-born native, Dayna Scarso grew up with a love and
talent for dance, performing commercially, off-Broadway and with MTV at
their national studios; she graduated from NYU with a Bachelor's degree
in Business Administration and Photography, and began her illustrious
career as head of the human resource department for Century 21 Depart-
ment Stores, where she spent 15 years; and
WHEREAS, Dayna Scarso is currently a full-time wife, mother, sister
and friend, and serves as class mom within her son's schools; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Manni and Dayna Scarso have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, In addition to their steadfast and unremitting advocacy for
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Manni and Dayna Scarso support countless
other foundations within their community, teaching their sons the impor-
tance of doing good, helping others, and that it is always better to
give than to receive; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their two sons, Pietro Joseph
and Nico Antonio, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of their
lives and rejoice in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Manni and Dayna Scarso have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Manni and Dayna Scarso upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by the Federation of Italian-American Organizations
of Brooklyn, Ltd. on April 3, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Manni and Dayna Scarso.
