LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Kaka Dey upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award by the
Flora E. Kippins Foundation, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Kaka Dey upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Excel-
lence in Leadership Award by the Flora E. Kippins Foundation, Inc. which
was celebrated at their Second Annual Fundraising Gala on September 19,
2015, at the Desmond Americana, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award has been bestowed upon Dr. Kaka Dey for
his exceptional contributions to the field of HIV/AIDS research, antibi-
otics and anti-cancer drugs, as well as his continued active presence in
the local community; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished academic, Dr. Kaka Dey earned his Bachelor's
degree in Chemistry from the University of Cape Coast; he then received
his master's degree from the University of Ghana and his PhD from the
University of Nevada; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kaka Dey has spent numerous hours studying the human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and cytomegalovirus (CV) to help develop
drugs to prevent the viral diseases; in 2001, his highly acclaimed
research was awarded a patent; and
WHEREAS, Since then, Dr. Kaka Dey has developed new processes for
manufacturing personal care products, pressure sensitive adhesives and
protective coatings; and
WHEREAS, A man of many talents, Dr. Kaka Dey has taught at multiple
levels, and worked shortly for the mining industry analyzing gold and
silver rock samples; and
WHEREAS, Devoted to his profession, Dr. Kaka Dey has been a member of
the Ghana Chemical Society, the American Chemical Society, and the Sigma
XI Scientific Research Society; currently, this remarkable man holds the
position of President of the Ghana Association of the Capital District;
and
WHEREAS, With him throughout is his wife, Joyce, and their two chil-
dren, Eli and Yom, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life
and rejoice in his accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great state of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Kaka Dey upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Excellence in Leadership Award by the Flora E. Kippins Foundation,
Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Kaka Dey.
