LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Marie Gavazzi upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2015 Sammy Spirit Award by the Downtown
Troy Business Improvement District on December 2, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge those exemplary individuals whose purposeful lives
and distinguished careers have been committed to bettering the quality
of life in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Marie Gavazzi upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2015 Sammy Spirit Award by the Downtown Troy Business Improvement
District, celebrated at its Annual Dinner on Wednesday, December 2,
2015, at Franklin Plaza in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Marie Gavazzi has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and, consequently,
has been designated for this special honor; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the Downtown Troy Business Improvement
District (BID) is to cultivate and advocate for the economic growth of
downtown Troy by creating an inviting, dynamic, and sustainable communi-
ty that celebrates the City's history while building towards its future;
the BID is dedicated to improving the quality of life within the
district to further enhance and make the community a vibrant, attractive
destination for visitors, businesses, residents, property owners, the
daily workforce, and students; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District
presents the Sammy Spirit Award to an individual who volunteers his or
her time to activities, causes and positive programming in downtown
Troy; and
WHEREAS, Marie Gavazzi was honored with this auspicious award for her
tireless dedication and commitment to a variety of community groups and
organizations such as Troy Neighborhoods Action Council (T-NAC), the
Historic 5th and Grand Street Neighborhood Association, Troy In Bloom,
the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District as well as volunteering
as an organizer for Troy's recent "Meet The Candidates Event"; and
WHEREAS, As a Troy, New York, resident, Marie Gavazzi believes her
engagement in so many important community organizations has made her
more aware of the bigger picture in Troy and the Capital District; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her service, a period of
constructive involvement, Marie Gavazzi has stood constant in dignity,
good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Marie Gavazzi upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2015 Sammy Spirit Award by the Downtown Troy Business Improvement
District on December 2, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Marie Gavazzi.
