LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Corporal Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr.
posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as the recipient of
the 2014 Rensselaer County Honor a Deceased Veteran Award
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Corporal Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr. posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as the recipient of the 2014 Rensselaer County Honor a
Deceased Veteran Award; and
WHEREAS, Born in Troy, New York, on November 28, 1938, to the late
Elizabeth A. and Arthur M. Rockwell, Sr., Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr.
attended both Wynantskill School and Troy High School; and
WHEREAS, Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr. joined the United States Marine Corps
in November of 1956, and served proudly in B Company, First Amphibian
Tractor Battalion, Fleet Marine Force; and
WHEREAS, This brave soldier was honorably discharged with the esteemed
rank of Corporal on November 28, 1962, and became a self-employed jewel-
er for many years with businesses in Ballston Spa, Saratoga Springs,
Colonie, and Defreestville, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr. was an employee of the
New York State Workman's Compensation Rating Board; and
WHEREAS, Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr. owned an airplane in which he and his
wife enjoyed flying together and prospected for gold for over 40 years;
and
WHEREAS, An avid inventor, Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr. was a painter of
portraits and landscapes, and was honored to have his talented work
permanently displayed in the Rensselaer County Office Building; and
WHEREAS, A quintessential civic leader, Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr. was a
member of the Elks Club, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and
Sons of the American Revolution, as well as a life member of the Marine
Corps League; he also was a foster parent, volunteer for Doors of Hope,
and a leader for Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr. belonged to the First
Reformed Church in Wynantskill, New York, for over 50 years; and
WHEREAS, Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr., formerly of Wynantskill, New York,
died on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary man left a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; predeceased by his sister, Joan, and brother,
James, Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr. is survived by his wife, Nancy Ann; seven
children, Kimberly (Tom), Tara (late Ken), Jana (Steve), Richard
(Debbie), Faith, Rene, and Kerry; five grandchildren, Jill, Karyn,
Justin, Joseph, and Ryann; five great-grandchildren, Steven, Vincent,
Madison, Logan, and Jack; four brothers, Charles, William, David, and
Terry; and one sister, Barbara; as well as many nieces, nephews, and
cousins; and
WHEREAS, Members of the armed services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Corporal Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr. posthumously upon the occasion of
his designation as the recipient of the 2014 Rensselaer County Honor a
Deceased Veteran Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Corporal Arthur M. Rockwell, Jr.
