LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Beverly White upon the occasion of her
retirement after a long and distinguished 39-year career in Nursing
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those nurses from this great Empire State who have distin-
guished themselves through professional excellence and have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life of its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Beverly White upon the occasion of her retirement after a long and
distinguished 39-year career in Nursing; and
WHEREAS, In 1966, Beverly White graduated from All Saints High School,
Brooklyn, New York; after graduation, she earned her Bachelor's degree
in Nursing from Hunter College of the City University of New York,
School of Nursing in 1975; and
WHEREAS, Beverly White also received her Basic Life Support (BLS)
Certification Course allowing her to perform CPR on Infants, Children
and Adults with 1 or 2 rescuers, as well as use an Automated External
Defibrillator (AED); and
WHEREAS, After obtaining her degree, Beverly White served as a Regis-
tered Nurse at St. Luke's Hospital, New York, New York, from January of
1975 until September of 1976, providing nursing care to both medical and
surgical patients; and
WHEREAS, Beverly White then moved on to St. Vincent's Hospital, New
York, New York, where she admitted and discharged patients, provided
nursing care to patients preparing for or recovering from open-heart
surgery, and administered medications and treatments as well as recorded
the progress of the patients on their charts; and
WHEREAS, In August of 1981, Beverly White realized she would like to
work the overnight shift, and subsequently, began her employment at St.
John's Queens Hospital, Elmhurst, New York; she happily held this posi-
tion until the hospital closed down in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her 28 year tenure, Beverly White proficiently
performed in many capacities including providing specialized medical and
surgical care for anesthetized patients, monitored post-operative
patients, collaborated with doctors and other health care professionals,
instructed patients on surgery after care, and performed numerous other
duties, most importantly, caring for her patients; and
WHEREAS, After St. John's Queens Hospital closed, Beverly White served
as a Registered Nurse at Jamaica Hospital, Jamaica, New York, a position
she held from April of 2009 until her retirement in 2016; and
WHEREAS, For the last seven years of her illustrious career, Beverly
White continued to excel as a caring, patient, and generous Registered
Nurse; she has taken great pride in making sure her patients were secure
and comfortable; and
WHEREAS, In her much deserved retirement, Beverly White plans on
spending more time with her beloved family, and continuing to work part-
time in nursing; and
WHEREAS, Built upon the proud tradition of caring, the profession of
nursing is dedicated to implementing the best practices to deliver the
highest quality of care to those whom they serve; and
WHEREAS, These exceptional individuals, leaders in their profession,
make a difference in the lives of every one of their patients, as well
as the patients' family members they serve each and every day; they have
truly proven themselves to be great assets to the health and welfare of
the citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, A woman of true integrity, Beverly White has served as a
Registered Nurse with distinction, enthusiasm, dedication and honor; for
almost four decades, she has rendered faithful, conscientious and valu-
able service to New York City, earning the admiration, esteem and
affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Beverly White upon the occasion of her retirement after a long
and distinguished 39-year career in nursing, and to wish her continued
success in all her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Beverly White.
