LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joe Ryan upon the occasion of being
selected as Grand Marshal of the Buchanan St. Patrick's Day Parade

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging its
esteemed residents who have distinguished themselves in their profession
and in their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joe Ryan upon
the occasion of being selected as Grand Marshal of the Buchanan St.
Patrick's Day Parade to be celebrated with a "kick off" party prior to
the Parade at the Buchanan Fire House on February 27, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Joe Ryan attended SUNY Plattsburgh; there, he met Elsworth
Johnson, who introduced him to a neighbor, Frank Thomas, who was Princi-
pal of Blue Mountain Middle School; and
WHEREAS, After being offered a job by Principal Thomas, Joe Ryan
enjoyed a successful 32 year career at Blue Mountain Middle School,
retiring in 2001; and
WHEREAS, Joe Ryan was instrumental in the Living History Program; and
WHEREAS, Under his guidance, 3,211 students participated in the
program, along with hundreds of parents; and
WHEREAS, Joe Ryan was recognized for his efforts six times by "Who's
Who Among American Teachers;" he also received the Valley Forge Teacher
Medal and was the first national winner of the Outstanding Teacher of
American History award; and
WHEREAS, Joe Ryan is also Founder and President of the Living History
Education Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Joe Ryan is the loving husband of Daisy, and the proud father
of Jeremiah, Jennifer, and Leah; he has also been blessed with five
grandchildren, Jack, Julia, Luke, Ben, and Joey; and
WHEREAS, Joe Ryan is a wonderful role model in the community and his
role as Grand Marshal is a fitting tribute to his legacy; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joe Ryan upon the occasion of being selected as Grand Marshal of
the Buchanan St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joe Ryan.
