LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jam Factory upon the occasion of
its induction into the Syracuse Area Music Awards Hall of Fame on March
3, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
talented individuals within our midst, who have had a significant impact
on the arts and culture of our communities through their outstanding
musical entertainment; such individuals include the members of the band,
Jam Factory; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jam Factory upon the occasion of its induction into the Syracuse
Area Music Awards (SAMMYS) Hall of Fame to be celebrated at a Ceremony
on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Syracuse, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Syracuse Area Music Awards were first established in
1993, to annually recognize and honor Syracuse's most prominent musi-
cians and music educators, aiming to bring these individuals to the
forefront of public attention; and
WHEREAS, Based in Syracuse, New York, Jam Factory is remembered for
producing a gripping soulful rock sound, along with an exciting live
stage show which wowed audiences; and
WHEREAS, In 1966, while a student at Syracuse University, Howie Wyeth
brought together 25 of the best musicians the school had to offer, form-
ing the Sidewinders; and
WHEREAS, In the next few years, after changes in membership, the group
became known as Jam Factory; in 1969, the group included Kent DeFelice,
Joe English, Earl Ford, Mark Hoffmann, and Steve Marcone, as well as
Gene McCormick; and
WHEREAS, In 1971, Jam Factory recorded the album "Sitting In the
Trap," and the single "Talk is Cheap"; after the release of its album,
the group was signed by Columbia Records President Clive Davis; and
WHEREAS, For numerous years, Jam Factory has enjoyed great success in
not only Central New York, but also across the country performing in
several locations and venues including the War Memorial with Steppenwolf
and the Rascals, the Fillmore West in San Francisco, and the Whiskey a
Go-Go in Hollywood, as well as in Albuquerque, Aspen, Denver, and Seat-
tle; and
WHEREAS, Jam Factory has also shared the stage with legendary musi-
cians such as the Beach Boys, The Byrds, Billy Joel, Janis Joplin, Chuck
Berry, Isaac Hayes, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Miller, Rare Earth, Ike and Tina
Turner, and Joe Walsh; and
WHEREAS, With deep appreciation, this Legislative Body is pleased to
have this opportunity to recognize the spellbinding talents of Jam
Factory, and to wish the members continuing success in all their future
endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jam Factory upon the occasion of its induction into the
Syracuse Area Music Awards Hall of Fame on March 3, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jam Factory.
