LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring James P. Carver upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Community Service Award by the Boy
Scouts of America's Theodore Roosevelt Council

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those who distin-
guish themselves in their profession and in service to their community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
James P. Carver upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Community Service Award by the Boy Scouts of America's Theodore Roose-
velt Council; and
WHEREAS, The Theodore Roosevelt Council was originally incorporated in
1917 as the Nassau County Council but changed its name to honor and pay
tribute to its first Council Commissioner, the 26th President of the
United States, Theodore Roosevelt; and
WHEREAS, Headquartered in Massapequa, New York, the organization is
one of the Nation's oldest Scout Councils and is home to the Nation's
first Eagle Scout, Arthur R. Eldred; in 2012, the Council served nearly
10,500 youth and 294 scouting units; and
WHEREAS, The Theodore Roosevelt Council proudly honors individuals for
their outstanding display of character and leadership in making a
significant impact on their communities; James P. Carver of Massapequa,
New York, truly merits such recognition; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, James P. Carver began his career as an Officer with
the New York City Police Department; four years later, he joined the
Nassau County Police Department's Fourth Precinct before joining the
Nassau County Police Benevolent Association (PBA); and
WHEREAS, Since 2008, James P. Carver has held the position of Presi-
dent of the Nassau County PBA; in addition, he has served as Delegate,
Trustee and Vice President within the Association; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, James P. Carver has been
called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless civic and
charitable endeavors and has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, James P. Carver has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor James P. Carver upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Community Service Award by the Boy Scouts of America's Theodore
Roosevelt Council; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James P. Carver.
