LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Joseph McGuinness, beloved
coach, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Joseph McGuinness of New City, New York, passed away on
Friday, February 12, 2016, at the age of 55; and
WHEREAS, Born on November 18, 1960, in Suffern, New York, Joseph
McGuinness was the son of John J. and Florence McGuinness; as a young
man, he attended Clarkstown South High School where he excelled at play-
ing basketball; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Joseph McGuinness contin-
ued his basketball playing career at the West Point Military Academy,
and went on to play professionally in Ireland; and
WHEREAS, Upon returning to the United States, Joseph McGuinness
coached at Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia, New York, where he
led both the girls and boys varsity teams to state sectional titles; and
WHEREAS, Known for being a compassionate and caring mentor, this
esteemed man provided outstanding service to the Rockland community and
touched the lives of countless players; he was particularly respected
for his ability to connect with anyone with whom he spoke; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated family man, Joseph McGuinness is survived by his
wife Cynthia, and his three children, Megan, Patrick, and Conor, as well
as 24 nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Joseph McGuinness's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Joseph McGuinness leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Joseph McGuinness, beloved coach, distinguished citi-
zen and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Joseph McGuinness.
