LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Jeannine Ferriola upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Humanitarian Award by Bridge to
Youth on March 18, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Jeannine Ferriola upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Humanitarian Award by Bridge to Youth to be celebrated at its Annual
Dinner Dance on Friday, March 18, 2016, at Sirico's Caterers in Brook-
lyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, A community based non-profit organization in its 12th year,
Bridge to Youth serves the social and physical needs of developmentally
disabled children from all five boroughs of New York City; and
WHEREAS, Bridge to Youth allows children and their families to inter-
act with other peers and typically developing teenage volunteers in such
sponsored activities as, adaptive physical education, music therapy, art
therapy, literacy through cooking, and Zumba; these programs foster new
friendships, and improve the children's social skills; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Dr. Jeannine Ferriola has
continually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence
and diligent leadership in her unwavering service to her community and
profession and consequently has been selected for this most prestigious
honor; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Jeannine Ferriola
graduated from New York University College of Dentistry in 1990; for
over 25 years, her private practice has been committed to patient educa-
tion and creating beautiful smiles in her Brooklyn community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jeannine Ferriola has served as a member of the Second
District Dental Society and has served on its Peer Review Committee for
several years; she is also a member of the prestigious New York Dental
Forum and serves on the Hospitality Committee for the Greater New York
Dental Meeting; and
WHEREAS, 20 years ago, Dr. Jeannine Ferriola was diagnosed with breast
cancer; as a survivor, she has used her personal experience to help
inspire and empower other women facing the challenges associated with
the disease; she has counseled and supported several women both during
and after their treatments; and
WHEREAS, Active within her community, Dr. Jeannine Ferriola has been a
member of the Kiwanis Club of Mapleton for 15 years, and currently sits
on its Board; her involvement with the Club has given her the opportu-
nity to feed the hungry, help raise money for Ronald McDonald House,
help children with developmental disabilities at Bridge to Youth, assist
women at a local battered woman's shelter, and collect toys at Christmas
time for underprivileged children, as well as award scholarships to
young girls who have demonstrated the importance of community service in
their own lives; and
WHEREAS, In addition, from 2012 to 2013, she served as the President
of the Visitation Academy Mothers' Club and was instrumental in raising
funds for the school and developing a new early childhood playground for
its girls; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Jeannine Ferriola has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Dr. Constantine
Pavlakos, and her two children, Christian and Jessica, both of whom have
spent time volunteering at Bridge to Youth; Dr. Jeannine Ferriola's
family feels privileged to be a part of her life and rejoices in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Jeannine Ferriola has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
career, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Jeannine Ferriola upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Humanitarian Award by Bridge to Youth on March 18,
2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Jeannine Ferriola.
