LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Jim Briscoe upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition after 60 years of dedicated service
to the Stottville Fire Company

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Jim Briscoe upon
the occasion of his designation for special recognition after 60 years
of dedicated service to the Stottville Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure at the Stottville Fire Company, Jim
Briscoe has held numerous leadership positions including the esteemed
rank of Fire Chief for 30 years, and Secretary/Treasurer for 20 years,
as well as President for three years; currently, he serves as a Trustee;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to his responsibilities at the Stottville Fire
Company, Jim Briscoe is active throughout Columbia County; from
1963-1976 and again from 1976-1986, he held the esteemed position of
Fire Coordinator, and served as the Volunteer Fireman's Association
Secretary for 20 years; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Jim Briscoe has been a member of the Fire Advisory
Board since 1976, as well as a participant of the New York State Associ-
ation of Fire Chiefs for over five decades; and
WHEREAS, Along with his role as a firefighter, Jim Briscoe has held
the position of EMT for 25 years, and currently, is a member of the
Greenport Rescue Squad Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Jim
Briscoe is such a firefighter; throughout 60 years of devoted service,
this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call of duty,
those responsibilities which define the task of fire protection; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Jim Briscoe for 60 years of distinguished service;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jim Briscoe.
