LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jackie and Stuart Miller upon the occa-
sion of their designation for special recognition by the Schechter
School of Long Island on March 31, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Jackie and Stuart Miller have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jackie and
Stuart Miller upon the occasion of their designation for special recog-
nition by the Schechter School of Long Island to be celebrated at its
2016 Gala Homecoming held on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Old West-
bury Hebrew Congregation in Old Westbury, New York; and
WHEREAS, Jackie and Stuart Miller have been ardent supporters of the
Schechter School of Long Island (SSLI) High School for many years, and
have distinguished themselves in service to both the school and their
overall community; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed couple has worked tirelessly to recruit young
Jewish men and women from Brooklyn and Queens to come to the SSLI High
School; they are also the proud parents of three Schechter Alumni: Josh-
ua (2010), Rachel (2012), and Ashley (2015); and
WHEREAS, A Long Island native, Stuart Miller attended H.A.N.C, and
proudly extols the benefits of a Jewish Day School education to all who
may be considering a new school for their child; he is also a past
member of the Board of Directors of Hillel at Hofstra University where
he obtained his undergraduate degree; and
WHEREAS, Jackie Miller is the daughter of Holocaust Survivors and the
aunt of several nieces and nephews who have attended SSLI's High School;
she also serves on the fundraising committee for the Mill Basin Hatzolah
Volunteer Ambulance Corps; and
WHEREAS, Jackie and Stuart Miller have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; they have both been vital
patrons of the Museum of Jewish Heritage in downtown Manhattan; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Jackie and Stuart Miller have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Jackie and Stuart Miller have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jackie and Stuart Miller upon the occasion of their designation
for special recognition by the Schechter School of Long Island; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jackie and Stuart Miller.
