LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Mary B. Gooden upon the occasion of
her retirement after many years of distinguished service to the City of
Glens Falls

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished citizens who demonstrate great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communi-
ties and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mary
B. Gooden upon the occasion of her retirement after many years of
distinguished service to the City of Glens Falls; this momentous occa-
sion will be celebrated at St. Mary's School on Friday, February 12,
2016; and
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Mary B. Gooden rendered faith-
ful, conscientious and valuable service to Glens Falls Police Depart-
ment; and
WHEREAS, Born in Evergreen, Alabama as the sixth of nine children,
Mary B. Gooden relocated to Glens Falls, New York with her family as a
child; and
WHEREAS, After attending college in Manhattan, Mary B. Gooden began
her illustrious career with the City of Glens Falls as a Meter Maid in
1984; nine years later, the job was reclassified as a Traffic Control
Assistant, and became a civil service position; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as Traffic Control Assistant, Mary B. Gooden
served with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure, Mary B. Gooden has served under five
Chiefs of Police, and is the most senior member of the City Police
Department with 32 years of service; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Mary B. Gooden was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; she
has truly earned the admiration, esteem and affection of her colleagues;
and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Ernest "Sonny"
Gooden, and their five children, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those dedi-
cated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preser-
vation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full
praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mary B. Gooden upon the occasion of her retirement after many
years of distinguished service to the City of Glens Falls, and to wish
her continued success in all of her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary B. Gooden.
