LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Detective Nicholas Abrams for his gener-
ous contributions in refurbishing Pocket Park located in the West Hill
Neighborhood of Albany, New York
WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished
values, worthy of safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to
honor those individuals who serve to preserve and protect such values,
lauding particularly their unwavering courage and dedication in the
daily performance of their duties; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Detective
Nicholas Abrams for his generous contributions in refurbishing Pocket
Park located in the West Hill Neighborhood of Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, For the past 13 years, Nicholas Abrams has served the Albany
Police Department with honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, A graduate from the Zone Five Regional Law Enforcement Train-
ing Center in 2001, Nicholas Abrams was first assigned to the North
Station serving as Patrol Officer; in 2010, he was assigned to the
Neighborhood Engagement Unit where he served as a beat officer in the
West Hill Neighborhood of Albany; and
WHEREAS, During his three years in the Neighborhood Engagement Unit,
Detective Nicholas Abrams built strong ties with the community by organ-
izing bike rodeos, working side by side with several community leaders,
and becoming a certified Gang Resistance Education and Training instruc-
tor; and
WHEREAS, In the fall of 2012, Detective Nicholas Abrams proposed an
idea of refurbishing and expanding a park in the West Hill neighborhood
of Albany; his persistent efforts and community policing role in build-
ing a stronger, healthier community have resulted in the creation of
Pocket Park which will include a new playground and provide a safe envi-
ronment with recreational opportunities for all generations; and
WHEREAS, Through his dedication and commitment to the West Hill commu-
nity, Detective Nicholas Abrams has provided a generous amount of funds
for the revitalization of Pocket Park; he is committed to engaging the
neighborhood youth on a daily basis to foster a trusting relationship;
and
WHEREAS, During his time in the Neighborhood Engagement Unit, Police
Officer Nicholas Abrams earned the esteemed Police Office of the Year
Award for his work within the West Hill community; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, Nicholas Abrams achieved his current rank of Detec-
tive and today serves in the department's Community Response Unit; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Dawn, and their two
sons, Nicholas and Jacob, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize and commend such outstanding
law enforcement officers as Detective Nicholas Abrams for their valued
contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Detective Nicholas Abrams for his generous contributions in refur-
bishing Pocket Park located in the West Hill Neighborhood of Albany, New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Detective Nicholas Abrams.
