LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Scott R. Ciesla upon the occasion of his
designation as the 2016 National Band Director of the Year by the United
States All-American Bowl Selection Committee and the National Associ-
ation of Music Education
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
music instructors within our schools who distinguish themselves through
their ability to inspire their students to achieve excellence in musical
performance; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Scott R. Ciesla upon the occasion of his designation as the 2016
National Band Director of the Year by the United States All-American
Bowl Selection Committee and the National Association of Music Educa-
tion; and
WHEREAS, Scott R. Ciesla will be presented with this auspicious award
in recognition of the inspiration he brings to his students and fellow
music educators, and who, by his actions, embodies the core values of
the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Currently in his 14th year of teaching, Scott R. Ciesla has
served as the Director of Bands at Oswego High School since 2010; in
this capacity, he is responsible for directing the Wind Ensemble,
Concert Band, Marching Band and Brass Instruction, as well as serving as
Solo and Ensemble Coach and co-teaching the Middle School Jazz Band; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Scott R. Ciesla, Oswego High
School is the only school in the country to have a student earn the
honor of being accepted into the United States All-American Marching
Band since its inception in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Active within the music community, Scott R. Ciesla is a
member of the New York State School of Music Association and the
National Association for Music Education; and
WHEREAS, Music study is most worthy of being encouraged and promoted,
as it provides an opportunity for students to exhibit their skills to an
audience, thereby giving them self-esteem to last a lifetime; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Director of Bands at Oswego High School,
Scott R. Ciesla serves with loyalty, honor and distinction earning him
the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when music
educators of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Scott R. Ciesla upon the occasion of his designation as the 2016
National Band Director of the Year by the United States All-American
Bowl Selection Committee and the National Association of Music Educa-
tion; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Scott R. Ciesla.
