LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Iphy Laraba upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the National Action Network, West
Nassau Chapter, on April 17, 2016
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Iphy Laraba has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Iphy Laraba
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the
National Action Network, West Nassau Chapter, to be celebrated at its
3rd Annual Women's Prestigious Gala Awards Dinner held on Sunday, April
17, 2016, at the Chateau Briand Caterers in Carle Place, New York; and
WHEREAS, The National Action Network's Annual Women's Prestigious Gala
Awards Dinner recognizes outstanding individuals who demonstrate excel-
lence in their work, service, and commitment to the Jewish, Nigerian,
Caribbean, Spanish, Haitian and American communities; and
WHEREAS, The West Nassau Chapter, under the able leadership of
District Chairperson, Pastor Emmanuel Asse, continues the mission of NAN
which fulfills a vital role in moving our Nation forward; and
WHEREAS, Born in Lafia, Nigeria, on September 5, 1964, Iphy Laraba
Egbueje Oruada is the fourth child of Raphael and Agnes Ufondu; as a
young woman in Nigeria, she attended the prestigious St. Luke's Catholic
Primary and the famous St. Louis Catholic Secondary School; and
WHEREAS, Inspired by her grandfather to become an educator, Iphy Lara-
ba entered Teachers College Nsugbe where she completed her training as a
teacher; she later graduated from the National Certificate Education
College in Katsina and Lagos State University, earning her Bachelor's
degree in Education; and
WHEREAS, Iphy Laraba ably served as a classroom teacher for the Anam-
bra State Board of Education from 1984 to 1985, and taught at Government
Day School Tudun Wada Kaduna from 1988 to 1989; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Iphy Laraba has sponsored programs for youth
and female empowerment, and started a religious ministry to help the
less fortunate; she also overcame many challenges to found the New World
Academy, one of the fastest growing schools in Nigeria; and
WHEREAS, Established in 2009, the New World Academy has grown from a
population of 100 to its present enrollment of 489 students; her program
for children starts in nursery school, and educates students through
primary and middle school, as well as senior secondary classes at its
well-maintained campus; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Iphy Laraba is working with experts and consult-
ants to upgrade New World Academy to international recognition; she also
leads a ministry which annually goes to rural areas in Anambra State to
assist women to become more economically self-reliant; and
WHEREAS, During the entire period of her community service, a period
of constructive involvement, Iphy Laraba has stood constant in dignity,
good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Iphy Laraba has displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Iphy Laraba upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the National Action Network, West Nassau Chapter; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Iphy Laraba.
