LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Shelly Arjune-Persaud upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition by the Port Washington Parent
Resource Center on March 18, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Shelly Arjune-Persaud has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Shelly
Arjune-Persaud upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion by the Port Washington Parent Resource Center, to be celebrated at
its Annual Gala on Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Village Club of Sands
Point; and
WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, the Parent Resource Center (PRC) has
been an integral part of the Port Washington community, bringing togeth-
er families with young children to play, learn, grow, and make life-long
friendships; and
WHEREAS, Shelly Arjune-Persaud was an accountant and auditor in the
banking and securities industry, before moving to Port Washington, New
York to dedicate her life to raising her children; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to nurturing chil-
dren and supporting organizations which promote childhood enrichment,
Shelly Arjune-Persaud began volunteering as class liaison at her chil-
dren's schools, and organizing classroom enrichment activities; and
WHEREAS, Shelly Arjune-Persaud went on to chair various committees at
Sousa Elementary School; she has volunteered on its HSA Executive Board
for the past three years and is currently the HSA Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Shelly Arjune-Persaud has been a Port Washington
Girl Scout leader for more than six years and a Cub Scout Den leader for
the past year, fostering a special connection with her children, and
creating lasting memories for the local youth; and
WHEREAS, As Director of Operations at the Parent Resource Center,
Shelly Arjune-Persaud is truly dedicated to providing enrichment to the
children within her community, welcoming mothers who are feeling
isolated at home, and ensuring the PRC remains a community resource for
the next generation of Port Washington families; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Shelly Arjune-Persaud has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Chet, and their
two children, Raina and Dillon, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Shelly Arjune-Persaud has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Shelly Arjune-Persaud upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Port Washington Parent Resource Center on
March 18, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Shelly Arjune-Persaud.
