LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Joy Griffith for her many years of
service and dedication to the Maternity and Early Childhood Foundation,
Inc. on May 5, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Joy Griffith for her many years of service and dedication to the Mater-
nity and Early Childhood Foundation, Inc. to be celebrated at Community
Maternity Services' 1st Annual Celebration of Life on Thursday, May 5,
2016, at Brown's Revolution Hall, Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Community Maternity Services, an agency of Catholic Charities
of the Diocese of Albany, was founded in 1971, as a single residential
program providing services to pregnant adolescents; and
WHEREAS, Community Maternity Services now provides a continuum of
services including: care for pregnant and parenting adolescents and
their families, group residence and family care for children, prevention
services and support for families at risk, adoption services, foster
care services, and respite services; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization is proud to recognize Joy Griffith,
Executive Director of Maternity and Early Childhood Foundation, Inc. for
partnering with Community Maternity Services to help improve the lives
of the children and families its serves; and
WHEREAS, The Maternity and Early Childhood Foundation, Inc. is a not-
for-profit organization in New York State which provides funds to commu-
nity based agencies located in high need areas across New York State to
serve low income expectant and new parents; and
WHEREAS, Under Joy Griffith's luminous leadership, the Maternity and
Early Childhood Foundation, Inc. strives to ensure a safe and healthy
birth of the child and the well-being of the mother by supporting and
promoting services to those pregnant and parenting women and their fami-
lies who are most in need; and
WHEREAS, Since the Maternity and Early Childhood Foundation, Inc.
began in 1983, grants have been awarded to over 130 agencies across the
state, and thousands of young families have received critical services
at a most important time, the birth of a child; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the year, Joy Griffith has proudly touched the
lives of countless young mothers and children throughout the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Joy Griffith for her many years of service and dedication to the
Maternity and Early Childhood Foundation, Inc. (MECF) on May 5, 2016;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joy Griffith.
