LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jacob Sanchez upon the occasion of
capturing a Gold Medal at the 2016 Empire State Games

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of hard work, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
talented young athletes who distinguish themselves and their community
through outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jacob Sanchez upon the occasion of capturing a Gold Medal at the
2016 Empire State Games on Friday, February 5, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Eight year old Jacob Sanchez, a third grade student, earned
himself a first place finish after skating with power and grace during
the Boys Pre-Juvenile Well-Balanced Figure Skating Event at the 2016
Empire State Games; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice; Jacob Sanchez began figure skating when
he was just five years old, performing in his first competition in
February of 2013 at Ice Time Sports Complex where he regularly trains;
and
WHEREAS, The talent and success displayed by Jacob Sanchez of Montgom-
ery, New York, is due in great part to the efforts of his coaches, Oleg
Makarov and Larisa Selezneva, skilled and inspirational mentors,
respected for their ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Jacob Sanchez, in achieving this high athletic honor, may
take just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of
excellence he brings to his family, friends, community and school; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Jacob Sanchez, a
young man and extraordinary athlete, recognizing the value of his labors
and the promise of his future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jacob Sanchez upon the occasion of capturing a Gold Medal
at the 2016 Empire State Games; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jacob Sanchez.
