LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Manhasset High School Marching
Band upon the occasion of winning the 2015 New York State Marching Band
Championship

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those dedicated and distinguished teams that are committed to
the pursuit of excellence, bringing great pride to the citizens of New
York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Manhasset High School Marching Band upon the occasion of
winning the 2015 New York State Marching Band Championship; and
WHEREAS, The Manhasset High School Marching Band captured its seventh
consecutive New York State Marching Band Championship with a first place
score of 81.75 in the Group 1A Competition on Sunday, October 18, 2015,
at the Woodbridge High School, Woodbridge, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Manhasset High School Marching Band was
recipient of awards for best percussion, music, visual effect, color
guard, and overall effect; and
WHEREAS, Featuring musical selections from "Star Wars," the members of
this outstanding group of performers displayed numerous complex marching
routines, including an outstanding finale involving the Color Guard and
a drum major; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Randy Knudsen, Director of
Bands, the Manhasset High School Marching Band has participated in the
USBands competition circuit for more than 14 years, winning the New York
State Championship seven times; and
WHEREAS, In addition to Director, Randy Knudsen, the band was
supported and mentored by Assistant Director, Mr. VanBoxel; Instructor,
Mr. Minaya, and Color Guard Instructor, Mrs. Baskin; and
WHEREAS, It should be further noted that excellence in field band is
possible only through vigorous practice and discipline, habits that will
guide these young musicians to a lifetime of success in the musical
field or other career fields; and
WHEREAS, It is known that dedicated and distinguished teams, such as
the Manhasset High School Marching Band, cannot achieve the highest
standards of success without the support of those who devote countless
hours of their time to the marching band; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Manhasset High School Marching Band; its
members: Alycia Abdur-Rashid, Lumin Abdur-Rashid, Troy Beattie, Kellyann
Bock, Charlese Caldwell, Jeffrey Chin, Fred Chu, Andrew Comerford, Grace
D'Ariano, Emma Fleishman, Joseph Gabriele, Calvin He, Mia Krishnamurthy,
Serene Lee, Stephen Lee, Michelle Marcisak, Kevin McAleer, John Messina,
Brian Morrissey, Brian Murray, Amanda Naccarato, John Palmadessa,
Matthew Palmadessa, William Peng, Harry Petropoulos, Michael Polis,
Elizabeth Rutkovsky, Sung Won Seo, Rachel Sloan, Adam Smotkin, Joseph
Yoo, and Christine Yoo; all of who positively represent their school,
who are role models to their classmates, who exemplify the marching
band's goal of continued excellence, and who have brought great pride to
their community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Randy Knudsen, Director of Bands, Mr. VanBoxel, Assistant
Director, Mr. Minaya, Instructor, and Mrs. Baskin, Color Guard Instruc-
tor, as well as the members of the Manhasset High School Marching Band.
