LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Robert Miller upon the occasion of
being selected as the March honoree of the Veteran's Flag Ceremony host-
ed by the Hampton Bays Union Free School District
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Robert Mill-
er upon the occasion of being selected as the March honoree of the
Veteran's Flag Ceremony hosted by the Hampton Bays Union Free School
District; and
WHEREAS, The Hampton Bays Union Free School District proudly honors
Robert Miller for his service to the United States by flying a flag in
his honor for the entire month of March at the Hampton Bays Elementary
School; and
WHEREAS, Robert Miller, affectionately known as Bob, was born in
Brooklyn, New York in February of 1949; at an early age his parents
moved to Suffolk County, first to North Babylon and then to Huntington
and Smithtown; and
WHEREAS, Upon his graduation from Smithtown High School in June of
1967, Bob Miller enlisted in the United States Marine Corps; during this
time he was sent to Paris Island, South Carolina for boot camp, followed
by advanced infantry training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Bob Miller then volunteered for "recon" training before
attending jump school at the United States Army Parachute Training
Facility in Fort Benning, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, In January of 1968, the North Vietnamese launched their
biggest counteroffensive, and Bob Miller was immediately transferred to
the First Battalion of the Ninth Marines and inserted into areas around
the city of Khe Sahn; and
WHEREAS, During his 19 month tour of duty in Vietnam, Bob Miller was
involved in numerous combat operations against both North Vietnamese
troops and Viet Cong troops before being rotated home; he was honorably
discharged from the Marine Corps in the summer of 1970; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, Bob Miller
worked at various jobs before beginning his illustrious 20 year career
with the Quogue Police Department in 1972; he moved to Hampton Bays in
1973, and became a member of Quogue VFW Post No. 5350; and
WHEREAS, After retirement, Bob Miller fulfilled his passion for acting
and movie making by joining local acting companies; he has since been
cast in several large productions where he has worked as both an actor
and stunt man; and
WHEREAS, Today, Bob Miller resides with his wife Rita in Eastport, New
York, where he continues his acting and movie making career; he was
elected to Senior Vice-Commander of the Westhampton Beach post of the
VFW; he is the proud father of five children, and has 13 grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel
ensure our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of
democracy, and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the
world; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Robert Miller upon the occasion of being selected as the March
honoree of the Veteran's Flag Ceremony hosted by the Hampton Bays Union
Free School District; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Robert Miller.
