LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Kevin Parker upon the occasion of
capturing the 182-pound Division I wrestling title at the New York State
Public High School Athletic Association Wrestling Championships on
February 27, 2016
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Kevin
Parker upon the occasion of capturing the 182-pound Division I wrestling
title at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association
Wrestling Championships on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at the Times
Union Center in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, New
York, Kevin Parker became a two-time defending champion from Section II,
outscoring his opponents 59-4 to end his high school career with the
182-pound Division I title; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Parker, ranked 14th in the Nation, advanced to the
championship match by tech fall, 15-0, over Long Beach junior Tyreek
Bromley in the semifinal round Saturday morning; and
WHEREAS, During the title match, this talented young athlete secured a
13-4 decision over his opponent, the No. 2 New York State ranked wrest-
ler in his weight class, a senior from Lakeland Panas; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the 2016 season, Kevin Parker continued to subdue
his opponents with a signature leg maneuver, allowing him to register a
remarkable 47-1 record; and
WHEREAS, A true leader and an exceptional student, Kevin Parker plans
on continuing his wrestling career next year when he competes for
Princeton University; and
WHEREAS, As he graduates from high school this June, Kevin Parker's
overall record of 215-41 is outstanding, and he was loyally and enthusi-
astically supported by family, fans, friends and the community at large;
and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of Kevin Parker, from the opening match of the
season to participation in the championship, were a triumph of athletic
ability, good sportsmanship, honor, and scholarship, demonstrating that
this athlete is second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, Kevin Parker has proven
himself to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favorably
on his school; and
WHEREAS, Coach Robert Weeks has done a superb job in guiding, molding
and inspiring this gifted young grappler toward his goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Kevin Parker has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Kevin Parker upon the occasion of capturing the 182-pound
Division I wrestling title at the New York State Public High School
Athletic Association Wrestling Championships, and to wish him great
success in all his continuing endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted Kevin Parker, Coach Robert Weeks, and the Athletic Department
and Administration of Shenendehowa High School.
