LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Margaret Skinner upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Sister Mary Coons Award by the Food
Pantries for the Capital District
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Margaret Skinner has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Margaret Skin-
ner upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Sister Mary
Coons Award by the Food Pantries for the Capital District; this momen-
tous occasion was celebrated at its 2014 Harvest Evening on Thursday,
October 23, 2014, at the Century House, Latham, New York; and
WHEREAS, Named in honor of Sister Mary Coons, a Sister of Mercy for 50
years, this auspicious award is given annually to an individual who
exemplifies the values of the Food Pantries for the Capital District;
and
WHEREAS, Margaret Skinner has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A steadfast and dedicated volunteer at the Food Pantry of St.
Vincent's Church, Margaret Skinner is a leader at the Food Pantries for
the Capital District as a member of its Board of Directors; she served
as President of the Board from 2010 to 2014, after having previously
served in various leadership positions since 2008; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as Board Member and volunteer, Margaret Skin-
ner has been instrumental in developing strong financial oversight
through the Finance Committee, and has built wonderful community
relationships, bringing in new volunteers and supporters; and
WHEREAS, Active within the community she so ably serves, Margaret
Skinner serves on the Albany County FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter
Board, as well as on the Committee for the CROP Walk to End Hunger; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Margaret Skinner has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Margaret Skinner has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Margaret Skinner upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Sister Mary Coons Award by the Food Pantries for the Capital
District; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Margaret Skinner.
