LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Tuckahoe Tigers Youth Cheer-
leading Squad upon the occasion of capturing the 2016 Senior Recreation-
al Division National Championship at the National High School Cheerlead-
ing Championships
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Tuckahoe Tigers Youth Cheerleading Squad upon the occasion of capturing
the 2016 Senior Rec Division National Championship at the National High
School Cheerleading Championships on February 6, 2016, at Walt Disney
World in Florida; and
WHEREAS, On the following day, the remarkable Tuckahoe Tigers Youth
Cheerleaders placed second in the world competition; and
WHEREAS, The Tuckahoe Tigers Youth Cheerleading Squad are proud to be
the first team in Tuckahoe's history to win a National title; and
WHEREAS, Started in 2006, the Tuckahoe Tigers Youth Cheerleading Squad
is comprised of 21 cheerleaders in grades six through eight, 19 of whom
are from Tuckahoe, and two from the surrounding area; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated cheerleaders of the Tuckahoe Tigers Youth
Cheerleading Squad practice year round, sacrificing vacation and family
time; from September through December, the Squad participates in compe-
titions every weekend; and
WHEREAS, In late November of 2015, the Tuckahoe Tigers Youth Cheer-
leading Squad competed in a regional competition where they had to score
high enough to qualify to participate in the National Cheerleading Cham-
pionship; and
WHEREAS, In February, the Tuckahoe Tigers Youth Cheerleading Squad
travelled to Walt Disney World to compete in the two day championship
which is run by the Universal Cheerleading Association; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Coaches David Pope, Kaitlyn Partenza, and Lori
Romeo, skilled and inspirational tutors, respected for their ability to
develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record is outstanding, and the team
members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the Tuckahoe Tigers Youth Cheerleading
Squad, from the opening competition of the season to participation in
the Championship, were a sisterhood of athletic ability, of good sports-
manship, of honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that these team
players are second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school; and
WHEREAS, Coaches David Pope, Kaitlyn Partenza, and Lori Romeo and
their dedicated staff have done a superb job in guiding, molding and
inspiring the team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when young
people who represent their community with pride and determination while
participating in competitive sports are brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great
State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Tuckahoe Tigers Youth Cheerleading Squad; its members,
and Coaches David Pope, Kaitlyn Partenza, and Lori Romeo on their
outstanding season and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the Tuckahoe Tigers Youth Cheerleading Squad,
and to Coaches David Pope, Kaitlyn Partenza, and Lori Romeo.
