LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chief Robert Waegerle upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of dedicated service to the Amity-
ville Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the firefighter
has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to spare us from
the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to honor Chief Robert Waegerle
upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of dedicated
service to the Amityville Fire Department to be celebrated on Saturday,
April 9th, 2016, at the Department Headquarters in Amityville, New York;
and
WHEREAS, For the past 33 years, Chief Robert Waegerle has rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service as a firefighter with the
Amityville Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Robert Waegerle first joined the Amityville Fire Department
in August of 1983, as a member of Hose Company No. 2; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, this exceptional leader rose through the
ranks, holding such esteemed positions as First and Second Lieutenant,
Captain, and Fire Council member; and
WHEREAS, In 2008, Robert Waegerle joined the Chief's Office where he
continued to provide outstanding guidance as an Assistant Chief until
becoming full Chief in 2014; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious tenure, Chief Robert Waegerle served
with loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of
duty; he has earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Firefighters and fire departments not only provide the crit-
ical service of fire protection but also engage in other activities of
great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Chief
Robert Waegerle is such a firefighter; throughout his over three decades
of devoted service, this firefighter heroically performed, above and
beyond the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of
fire protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief Robert Waegerle upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition after many years of dedicated service to the Amity-
ville Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Robert Waegerle.
