LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating John Folwell IV upon the occasion
of earning all 141 Boy Scout of America Merit Badges, the first Scout to
accomplish this rare, and amazing task
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, With his sense of civic duty and his commitment to others,
John Folwell IV represents the best development of the potential which
is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, John Folwell IV was a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop
31, Rochester, New York, when he achieved an incredible feat; he is the
first Scout to earn all 141 Boy Scout of America Merit Badges that were
available during his six-plus years as a Scout, including four that were
available for only a year; and
WHEREAS, Currently, an 18 year-old Senior at McQuaid Jesuit High
School, John Folwell IV distinctly remembers the hard work and diligent
efforts that were required to achieve each and every badge which deco-
rates his sash; some of his most vivid memories are associated with
obtaining Merit Badges for cycling, public speaking, theater, backpack-
ing and signaling; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, A stellar role model for his peers, this outstanding young
man has been involved in Scouting for many years, and has proudly lived
up to Scouting's ideals; this remarkable young man is a credit to his
family, his school, his community, his State and his Nation, and no
doubt his future will be filled with accomplishments of equal impor-
tance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor John Folwell IV upon the occasion of earning all
141 Boy Scout of America Merit Badges, the first Scout to accomplish
this rare, and amazing task; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Folwell IV.
