LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Sherry Morris, Class of 1989, upon
the occasion of her induction into the 2015 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic
Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Sherry Morris, Class of 1989, upon the occasion of her induction
into the 2015 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame, which was cele-
brated at a ceremony held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Kuhl's High-
land House, Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes those
distinguished individuals, who, through outstanding achievement in
athletics or service, have made lasting contributions to its sports
program and the overall community; and
WHEREAS, A 1989 graduate of SUNY Orange, Sherry Morris played for two
years on her school's basketball, softball and soccer squads, and was
named to the All Regional Team in all three sports in both of her years
at the college; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Sherry Morris was named the 1988 Mid-Hudson
Conference Softball Most Valuable Player, and was a 1,000 point scorer
in basketball, helping lead her team to the 1989 National Tournament in
Tyler, Texas; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating from SUNY Orange, this esteemed athlete
transferred to Wagner College where she continued to play basketball and
softball; she was named to the Northeast Conference Softball first team
in 1990, and remains among a group of players who jointly hold the Divi-
sion I single-game record for triples in a game; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Sherry Morris averaged 13.8 points per game and
11.8 rebounds per game during the 1990-91 Wagner basketball season; she
was also named an All-Conference honoree, and set career highs of 26
points and 18 rebounds; and
WHEREAS, Athletes like Sherry Morris provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of student-
athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Sherry Morris has clearly been an inspiration to the youth of
SUNY Orange, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedication to others;
and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Sherry Morris has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sherry Morris, Class of 1989, upon the occasion of her
induction into the 2015 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sherry Morris.
