LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Stacey Morris, Class of 1989, upon
the occasion of her induction into the 2015 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic
Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Stacey Morris, Class of 1989, upon the occasion of her induction
into the 2015 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame, which was cele-
brated at a ceremony held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Kuhl's High-
land House, Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes those
distinguished individuals, who, through outstanding achievement in
athletics or service, have made lasting contributions to its sports
program and the overall community; and
WHEREAS, A 1989 graduate of SUNY Orange, Stacey Morris played for two
years on her school's basketball, softball and soccer squads, and was
named to the All Regional Team in all three sports in both of her years
at the college; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Stacey Morris was named the 1989 Athlete of the
Year, and was a 1,000 point scorer and third-team NJCAA All-American in
basketball; and
WHEREAS, Following her exceptional career at SUNY Orange, Stacey
Morris became a standout at Wagner College, where she is considered one
of the greatest dual sport athletes in school history; and
WHEREAS, As a senior, this remarkable athlete became one of the
predominant softball players in the entire Nation, leading the country
in slugging percentage (.954) while ranking second nationally in batting
with a robust (.556) average; furthermore, she was also ranked third
nationally in home runs (10) and RBIs (43); and
WHEREAS, In 1993, Stacey Morris' reputation for on-the-field excel-
lence continued when she returned to SUNY Orange to serve as head soft-
ball coach; over 17 seasons, she amassed more than 300 career victories
and guided the Colts to 12 regional and conference championships; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and honors, Stacey Morris
was inducted into the Wagner College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Athletes like Stacey Morris provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of student-
athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Stacey Morris has clearly been an inspiration to the youth of
SUNY Orange, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedication to others;
and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Stacey Morris has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Stacey Morris, Class of 1989, upon the occasion of her
induction into the 2015 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Stacey Morris.
