LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Clorita Galvin upon the occasion of her
selection as Deputy Marshal of the Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day
Parade on March 20, 2016

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
the Irish people throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides opportunity for
people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Clorita Galvin upon the occasion of her selection as Deputy Marshal of
the Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 20, 2016;
and
WHEREAS, Clorita Elizabeth Clarke was born to parents Edward Francis
Clarke of County Louth, and Roseanna Connely from Long Island, New York,
in 1949; raised in Brooklyn, she attended Public School 146, Junior High
School PS 10 and John Jay High School; and
WHEREAS, Known as a hard worker, Clorita Galvin has held a variety of
positions throughout her lifetime; most recently, she served as the
office manager of Bay Ridge Whole Sale Tobacco and Candy Company; and
WHEREAS, After being widowed at the young age of 37, Clorita Galvin
has continued to remain positive and move forward; she gave of her time
and energies to several charities and organizations such as the Helping
Hands of the Michael A. Rawley Post No. 1636, where she served as Pres-
ident, and the Auxiliary in Bay Ridge, American Legion Post No. 157,
where she held the title of Secretary; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Clorita Galvin has been a vital member of the
Ladies' Ancient Order of Hibernians for many years, and is proud to have
been selected as a Deputy Grand Marshall of the St. Patrick's Day
Parade; and
WHEREAS, When she is not working or spending time with her loving
family, Clorita Galvin enjoys shooting pool, cooking, and playing on her
computer; she also enjoys tending her flowers and vegetables in her
garden; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her husband, Michael John, with her throughout
have been her five wonderful children, Michael John, Donna, Sean,
Roseanne, and Edward; and her nine treasured grandchildren, Michael,
Kerry, Elizabeth, Erin, Chloe, Andrew, Liam, Emily, and Reagan, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, intellect and commitment as that demonstrated by over a
lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal of the Annual Bay Ridge
St. Patrick's Day Parade, Clorita Galvin embodies the spirit and the
cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Clorita Galvin upon the occasion of her selection as Deputy
Marshal of the Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 20,
2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Deputy Marshal Clorita Galvin.
