LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Alan P. Goldberg upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by The Palace Performing Arts
Center on April 2, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to publicly recognize
those extraordinary individuals who have made contributions to the
cultural enrichment of the State of New York, and the success and
progress of society in the course of their life's work; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Alan P. Goldberg upon the occasion of his designation for special recog-
nition by The Palace Performing Arts Center at its Backstage Ball on
Saturday, April 2, 2016, at The Palace Theatre in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, First opened in October of 1931, the Palace Theatre is a
grand cultural and entertainment facility in the heart of Albany, New
York; today, this spectacular venue continues to make history with a
widely diverse offering of popular acts and cultural events; and
WHEREAS, Alan P. Goldberg serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors
of The Palace Performing Arts Center; he is a well-known and respected
business leader, philanthropist, community volunteer and advocate,
currently investing his time and expertise for nonprofit institutions
and arts organizations throughout the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Alan P. Goldberg serves as Chairman of the Board
of Directors of The Watervliet Arsenal Partnership and is Vice Chairman
of the Board of Directors of MVP Health Care, Inc., as well as trustee
of the Howard and Bush Foundation; and
WHEREAS, After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from
Tufts University, Alan P. Goldberg moved to the Capital Region in 1980,
where he joined First Albany Corporation, serving in several leadership
capacities as President, CEO, and Director until 2007; and
WHEREAS, Prior to this, Alan P. Goldberg was Founder and President of
Hawthorne Securities Corporation and a member of the New York Stock
Exchange; he was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Boston
Stock Exchange and served on the District Committee of the National
Association of Securities Dealers Inc. as well as Chair of the District
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Alan P. Goldberg's public service spans decades of community
involvement; he has served on the Board of Directors of several publicly
traded companies, including First Albany Companies, MTI Inc., SatCom
Technology Corporation and Beacon Power; and
WHEREAS, Alan P. Goldberg was past Chairman of the Board of Directors
of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Center for
Economic Growth; he is a former Chairman of the Board of the Albany
Symphony, the Albany Institute of History and Art, and a founder and
chair of the Advisory Council for the University at Albany's Center for
Jewish Studies; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous honors and awards including the
Citizen Laureate Award of the University at Albany, Alan P. Goldberg was
also awarded the Envoy Salute of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of
Commerce, the Education Vision and Innovation Award from the Hudson
Mohawk Association of Colleges and Universities, and was named to the
Tech Valley Business Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Alan P. Goldberg upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by The Palace Performing Arts Center on April 2,
2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Alan P. Goldberg.
