LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Rose Weiss upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Rose
Weiss upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday with a party
planned by her friends, fellow residents and nurses at the Skilled Nurs-
ing Unit of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Rose Weiss was born on March 7, 1916; since the age of 16,
she has been active in relief and welfare work helping people in hospi-
tals and assisting members of the United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, As an active member of both the Loch Sheldrake and Fallsburg
Seniors, Rose Weiss has worked tirelessly trying to bring attention to
seniors and their needs, even going door-to-door; and
WHEREAS, Rose Weiss is still as feisty and full of life today as she
was in her youth; during that time in her life, she loved her demanding
jobs in design and running fashion shows in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Rose Weiss and her husband, Nat Weiss, met through his uncle
who worked with Rose; after two years of prodding, Rose finally accepted
Nat's invitation to go to the Hotel Saint George, which at the time was
located in New York City; the couple danced all night on their first
date; and
WHEREAS, Rose and Nat Weiss were an exceptional ballroom couple; when
they got up to dance, everyone stopped to watch them move across the
dance floor; and
WHEREAS, Some of Rose Weiss' happiest memories are of her life with
her husband, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the age of 69;
consequently, she became a widow at the young age of 60; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Today, Rose Weiss often sits at a table at the Skilled Nurs-
ing Unit with two of her friends drinking coffee and saying hello to
anyone who passes by; she attributes her 100 years to keeping a positive
attitude and believing that a kind word can go a long way; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Rose Weiss upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rose Weiss.
