LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Daniel E. Martin upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by the Sisters of Mercy on May
10, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Daniel E. Martin upon the occasion of his designation for special recog-
nition by the Sisters of Mercy to be celebrated at its 17th Annual Even-
ing of Mercy Gala on May 10, 2016, at The Yale Club of New York City;
and
WHEREAS, The Sisters of Mercy work passionately to eliminate poverty,
the widespread denial of human rights, the degradation of earth, the
increase in violence and racism, the continued oppression of women, the
abuse of children, the mistreatment of immigrants and the lack of soli-
darity among people and nations; and
WHEREAS, Daniel E. Martin earned his Master's in Business Adminis-
tration at Fairfield University's Charles F. Dolan School of Business,
and is a graduate of the Graduate School of Retail Bank Management at
the University of Virginia's MacIntire School of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Daniel E. Martin held numerous executive positions at several
banks including Apple Bank, Roslyn Savings Bank and New York Community
Bank; he also led the Community Development Lending and Community Rein-
vestment Act Compliance; and
WHEREAS, Since July of 2004, Daniel E. Martin has held the esteemed
position of President and Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Part-
nership Development Corporation (Housing Partnership) and its affiliate
Community Partnership Development Corporation (Community Partnership);
and
WHEREAS, For over 30 years, the Housing Partnership has been a facili-
tator of dynamic partnerships between New York City, New York State and
private sectors to build and preserve affordable housing which stimu-
lates the growth and revitalization of neighborhoods throughout the
city's five boroughs; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of its history, the Housing Partnership has
participated in the creation of over 40,000 affordable units for low- to
moderate-income New York City households and leveraged more than $6
billion in private sector financing; and
WHEREAS, Under Daniel E. Martin's luminous leadership, the Housing
Partnership has been built into an innovative and entrepreneurial compa-
ny that is well-suited to meet the challenges that face New York City's
affordable housing market; and
WHEREAS, Daniel E. Martin is a vital member of the New York Housing
Conference Board of Directors, The Real Estate Institute of Long Island,
and the Federal Home Loan Bank of NY Affordable Housing and Advisory
Council; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Jackie, who feels
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his accomplishments;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Daniel E. Martin upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Sisters of Mercy on May 10, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Daniel E. Martin.
