LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Nicholas Paslow posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by Rensselaer County
at its Honor-A-Deceased-Veteran Ceremony on July 11, 2016

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nicholas Paslow posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor-A-Veteran Ceremony
on Monday, July 11, 2016; and
WHEREAS, For his courageous and dedicated service to his country,
Nicholas Paslow will be recognized at this year's July Honor-A-Veteran
Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Born December 1, 1920, to the late Anthony and Anna (Procak)
Paslowski, Nicholas Paslow graduated from Troy High School; on August 6,
1942, he enlisted in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas Paslow valiantly served his country during World War
II, holding the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as
a Mechanic and Gunner on both B25 and A20 Aircrafts; in November of
1954, he was honorably discharged; and
WHEREAS, For his meritorious service, Nicholas Paslow was the recipi-
ent of several awards and accolades including the Good Conduct Medal,
two Overseas Ribbons, Air Medal, and World War II Victory Medal, as well
as the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars; and
WHEREAS, On October 11, 1952, Nicholas Paslow married Mary Kryniak in
St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church; the couple were happily wed for
33 years until Mary passed away on April 18, 1986; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas Paslow was employed as an Electric Technician for
several companies including Sperry Univac, Remington Rand and later, for
Mohawk Data Services; after his retirement, he continued his education
by attending Herkimer County BOCES for nearly two decades; and
WHEREAS, A faithful member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church,
Nicholas Paslow was a long time member of the Choir and served as a
Communicant; and
WHEREAS, A devoted family man and hard worker, Nicholas Paslow died on
December 30, 2005, at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife, three brothers, Timothy, John
"Murph", and Joseph; and four sisters, Rose, Kathryn, Jessie and Mary;
Nicholas Paslow is survived by his son, Gary (Laurel); one grandson,
Nicholas Owen; a sister, Eugenia; two sisters-in-law, Stella and Helen;
one brother-in-law, Ezzio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for

their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nicholas Paslow posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor-A-Deceased-
Veteran Ceremony on July 11, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Nicholas Paslow.
