LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 42nd Anniversary of the Allen
Community Senior Citizens Center
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose purposeful
endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life for the cherished senior
citizens in their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 42nd
Anniversary of the Allen Community Senior Citizens Center; and
WHEREAS, In 1974, the Allen Community Senior Citizens Center was
founded as a haven for seniors seeking camaraderie, exercise, travel,
and programs in Southeast Queens; and
WHEREAS, Since then, the Allen Community Senior Citizens Center has
been dedicated to providing a wide variety of services to men and women
60 years and older with various comprehensive services such as recre-
ational and educational activities, computer classes, trips, daily
lunches, and transportation to and from the Center; and
WHEREAS, Referred to as "Queens Silver Lining for Seniors" by the
QUEENS TRIBUNE in January of 2015, this valued establishment has hosted
numerous informative workshops, hearings and town hall meetings to bene-
fit its seniors; and
WHEREAS, The success enjoyed by the Allen Community Senior Citizens
Center is in direct correlation to the efforts of the many individuals
such as Margaret Denson, Anzello Walker, Flora Wayne and Spurgeon Thomas
Ratliff, who have worked tirelessly on behalf of the more than 1,000
seniors in their care; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
celebrate the legacy of New York's senior citizens who have experienced
tumultuous changes in the 20th Century, including the dawn of the nucle-
ar age, the rise of the computer, and the proliferation of the automo-
bile, television, technology and so many other innovations of the Ameri-
can spirit, and who now represent a great and willing source of
knowledge available to our great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body recog-
nizes the many contributions of the Allen Community Senior Citizens
Center of Southeast Queens, New York, and wishes this worthy facility
continued success in its proactive mission to benefit and nurture the
communities it represents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 42nd Anniversary of the Allen Community Senior Citizens
Center of Southeast Queens, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Allen Community Senior Citizens Center.
