LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim April 11-13, 2016, as Global Youth Service Days in the State of
New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to memorialize Gover-
nor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 11-13, 2016, as Global Youth
Service Days in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) celebrates and mobilizes the
millions of young people who improve their communities each day of the
year through service; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1988, GYSD is celebrated each year in over 100
countries, with young people working together, and with schools, youth
organizations, nonprofits, community and faith-based organizations,
national service programs, government agencies, and adult mentors, to
address the world's most critical issues and change their communities;
and
WHEREAS, Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the
world, and the only day of service dedicated to children and youth; and
WHEREAS, Global Youth Service Day is a campaign sponsored every year
by YSA (Youth Service America), a youth organization based in Washing-
ton, D.C.; this vital group is an international leader in the youth
service movement; and
WHEREAS, GYSD encourages youth to find a SPARK (something that moti-
vates and excites them), invites them to figure out what issues or prob-
lems they are passionate about, and challenges them to design a
project/solution that addresses the identified community need; and
WHEREAS, Global Youth Service Day provides a platform for our youth to
volunteer and serve our communities; and
WHEREAS, It is imperative that youths across New York State take part
in this day by giving back to their respective communities; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 11-13, 2016, as
Global Youth Service Days in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
