LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sharon Frost upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Long Island Farm Bureau Citizen Award on
April 1, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sharon Frost upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Long Island Farm Bureau Citizen Award, to be celebrated at its 98th
Annual Awards Gala on Friday, April 1, 2016, at The Riverhead Polish
Hall, Riverhead, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Sharon Frost began serving as a Soil Technician with
Suffolk County Soil and Water Conservation Districts; and
WHEREAS, Known for her unremitting and steadfast dedication to Long
Island agriculture, Sharon Frost has been instrumental in organizing the
successful fuel tank replacement program which demonstrates an accepta-
ble solution to aging agricultural fuel tanks atop Long Island's sole
source aquifer; and
WHEREAS, Through this unique partnership, farmers were able to install
new tanks which met regulatory requirements at a great reduction in
cost, saving farmers more than a million dollars on an industry level;
this important program replaced 185 fuel tanks on 110 farms in Suffolk
over a 3-year period; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, this remarkable woman realized that farmers
required additional fuel storage capacity for farm production and,
consequently, worked with the county to increase storage from 250
gallons to 1000 gallons for farm use; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Sharon Frost was preemptive in her efforts to
assist farmers in becoming compliant prior to inspections and personally
attended all health department inspections on farms to ensure success;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Sharon Frost has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sharon Frost upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Long Island Farm Bureau Citizen Award on April 1, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sharon Frost.
