LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the incor-
poration of the Washington County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of the incorporation of the Washington County
Economic Opportunity Council, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, The Washington County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. was
incorporated on March 17, 1966, in response to President Lyndon
Johnson's War on Poverty; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of Community Action Agencies is to determine the
causes and conditions of poverty in their service area and assist indi-
viduals and communities in improving economic and social well-being; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of the incorporation, designated Community Action
Agency for Washington County, was to promote the provisions of the
Economic Opportunities Act of 1964, to work together within the county
to combat the causes and conditions of poverty for individual, families
and communities and assist individuals and communities in improving
their economic and social well-being; and
WHEREAS, For five decades, Washington County Economic Opportunity
Council, Inc. has supported programs and services such as Head Start,
Weatherization and Community Services Block Grant programs based on
local needs; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Washington County Economic Opportunity Council,
Inc. has worked with other vital organizations including Agencies of
Washington County Government, to operate Employment and Training
Services for Adults and Youth, Transportation and other assistance
programs; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the incorporation of the Washington
County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Washington County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc.
