LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Paula Whitman upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Education Foundation on April
15, 2016

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Paula Whitman
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the
Education Foundation, to be celebrated with a Gala on Friday, April 15,
2016, at the Village Club of Sands Point; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Port Washington since 1998, Paula Whitman has
been an active volunteer in support of the Port Washington schools since
she settled in the community nearly 20 years ago; she served on the
Executive Board of the Guggenheim PTA and, when the South Salem Elemen-
tary School reopened in 2003, she helped establish its HSA as the first
Co-President; and
WHEREAS, Paula Whitman went on to become President of the Weber HSA as
well as President of Parents' Council; she served on the school
district's Safety and Substance Abuse Task Force, and has been a trustee
on the board of the Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this esteemed woman is on the board of Reading
Dream, a non-profit organization which delivers books to underserved
populations all over the world; and
WHEREAS, Paula Whitman, the current President of the Education Founda-
tion, joined the board of this vital organization in 2010; she has held
the positions of Vice President of Development and Executive Vice Presi-
dent, chairing numerous fundraisers in those roles, and was named Presi-
dent in 2014; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Paula Whitman, the Education
Foundation exceeded the one million dollar mark in donations to the Port
Washington schools; and
WHEREAS; A graduate of Northwestern University, Paula Whitman earned a
Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance before receiving her Master's
degree in Education in Secondary English from Johns Hopkins University;
she teaches piano to aspiring musicians of all ages within the Port
Washington community, and recently started PW Essays, a business advis-
ing students on their college applications; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Rob, and their two
daughters, Hallie and Lauren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Paula Whitman has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Paula Whitman upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Education Foundation on April 15, 2016; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Paula Whitman.
