LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Amy Bass upon the occasion of her desig-
nation for special recognition by the Education Foundation on April 15,
2016
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Amy Bass upon
the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the Education
Foundation, to be celebrated with a Gala on Friday, April 15, 2016, at
the Village Club of Sands Point; and
WHEREAS, Founder and first president of the Port Washington Education
Foundation, Amy Bass currently serves as president emerita; and
WHEREAS, After stepping down from the esteemed position of president
of the Port Washington Board of Education in 1995, Amy Bass focused on
the concept of an education foundation, with the goal of making a
difference in the educational experience of Port Washington's students;
and
WHEREAS, During this time, Amy Bass organized a steering committee
with a commitment to creating something positive for the school district
that would also fit well into the landscape of local non-profit organ-
izations; and
WHEREAS, Established in 2001, and incorporated in early 2002, the
Education Foundation supports initiatives that are beyond basic educa-
tional needs, enhancing and expanding educational opportunities for all
students within the Port Washington public school district; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to the community,
Amy Bass is an active supporter of the Port Washington Public Library,
where she is president of Friends of the Library; she is also a long-
time board member and former vice president of Port Washington Community
Chest and vice president of the League of Women Voters of Port Washing-
ton Manhasset; and
WHEREAS, In addition, beyond Port Washington, she is a board member
and officer of the Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Amy Bass has been the recipient of numerous awards and acco-
lades including the Trailblazer of the New Millennium Award by the
Nassau County Legislature, Citizen of the Year by Community Chest of
Port Washington, and the Friends Award by Friends of the Library; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this esteemed woman was placed on the Town of
North Hempstead's May W. Newburger Women's Roll of Honor; she was also
designated by Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington, League of
Women Voters, and Port Youth Council as the honoree at their respective
galas; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Geoffrey, their
two children, and three grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be
a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Amy Bass has displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Amy Bass upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion by the Education Foundation on April 15, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Amy Bass.
