LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating student-athlete Jamie Lord upon
the occasion of being named Liberty League Women's Track Performer of
the Year
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late student-athlete Jamie Lord upon the occasion of being named Liberty
League Women's Track Performer of the Year; and
WHEREAS, A distance runner and student at Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute (RPI), Jamie Lord of Stony Point, New York, began her season
with an impressive First Place finish in the 1000 meters event at
Bowdoin College; she also recorded a personal collegiate best time of
2:58.62 before winning the 3000 meters at Ithaca College with a facility
record time of 10:06.16; and
WHEREAS, Jamie Lord followed up these remarkable performances with a
second place finish in the 800 meters at Middlebury College with a mark
of 2:19.91, and a First Place finish in the mile event at Dartmouth
College with 5:03.80; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed young athlete won the mile event
with an exceptional time of 4:57.38 at the Liberty League Championship
Meet, and captured third place in 800 meters, while also competing on
her school's distance medley relay team which won first place; and
WHEREAS, During the New York State Championships, Jamie Lord helped
her team win the Distance Medley Relay by breaking the school record by
more than 25 seconds, and posting a time of 11:59.89; she also finished
first in the 3000 meters at the Tufts University Final with a time of
9:45.58, giving her the third best time in NCAA Division III and the
school record on a flat track; and
WHEREAS, To finish the season at the NCAA Meet, Jamie Lord broke her
own school record with a time of 9:40.01 and helped the distance medley
relay team to another school record of 11:55.17 and a ninth place
finish; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Jamie Lord
earned National All-American honors by finishing in the top three in
nine out of 10 races she competed in this season, including the 3000
meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Jamie Lord was named Liberty League Track
Performer of the Week four times during the regular season; and
WHEREAS, Jamie Lord's overall record is outstanding, and she was
loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the
community at large; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Jamie Lord has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate student-athlete Jamie Lord upon the occasion of being named
Liberty League Women's Track Performer of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jamie Lord.
