LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Frederick W. Erlich upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Excellence in Public Service Award
by the SUNY Albany Alumni Association

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Frederick W.
Erlich upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Excel-
lence in Public Service Award by the SUNY Albany Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, Frederick W. Erlich, affectionately known as Fred, earned a
bachelor's degree in political science from the University at Albany in
1969, and a master's degree from the University at Albany's School of
Social Welfare in 1972; he later went on to earn a master's degree in
business administration from the University at Albany School of Busi-
ness; and
WHEREAS, Early in his career, Frederick W. Erlich served as assistant
director for the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Devel-
opmental Disabilities and executive director for the New York State
chapter of the National Society for Autistic Children; he co-founded
Living Resources in 1974, and became the CEO in 1981, the esteemed posi-
tion he continues to hold today; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Frederick W. Erlich has seen Living
Resources grow from residential services to full-range community, clin-
ical, educational and care-at-home services expanded to brain injured
survivors, veterans and the elderly; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his role at Living Resources, Frederick W.
Erlich teaches management, organizational behavior and social welfare
courses at the University at Albany and Hudson Valley Community College;
he has presented at more than 50 conferences and has been published in
several national magazines; and
WHEREAS, Frederick W. Erlich also partnered with the College of Saint
Rose to create the College Experience Program which allows young adults
to obtain essential life skills within a college environment; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man has been recognized for championing
assistive technology projects, and recently helped initiate the Univer-
sity at Albany's Assistive Living Technologies conference to help create
startups in this sector; he has truly made an impact globally through
his assistance in creating new services for individuals with disabili-
ties in China; and
WHEREAS, Frederick W. Erlich possesses the refreshing combination of
being a person who not only loves his career, but has the knowledge,
skills and leadership to excel at it; he has been recognized numerous
times for his achievements in public service, receiving the Rockefeller
College of Public Affairs and Policy Distinguished Alumni Award; the
Bishop Hubbard Award; the Hudson Valley Community College Lifetime
Achievement Award; and the Ed Roberts Advocacy Award from the Center for
Independence of the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was named Visionary in the Field of Aging and
Disabilities by the Capital Area Consortium on Aging and Disabilities;
and

WHEREAS, Active within the community he so ably serves, Frederick W.
Erlich has been a Rotary Club member for more than 20 years and a member
of the NYISO Consumer Advisory Council, HSBC Advisory Committee, and
Albany County Developmental Disabilities Subcommittee; and
WHEREAS, A true public servant, Frederick W. Erlich has served on the
Regional Food Bank board of directors and was treasurer of Tech Valley
Health Kids; he is currently on the board of trustees for both the
Daughters of Sarah and The International Center for the Capital Region;
and
WHEREAS, From providing a means for thousands of disabled individuals
to grow and flourish, to inspiring students and lending his voice across
multiple community organizations, Frederick W. Erlich's service has had
a tremendous impact on the welfare of the Capital Region and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Frederick W. Erlich has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Frederick W. Erlich upon the occasion of his designation as recip-
ient of the Excellence in Public Service Award by the SUNY Albany Alumni
Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Frederick W. Erlich.
