LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Joseph De Santo, dedicated
coach, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Joseph De Santo of Newark, New York, died on Tuesday, March
8th, 2016, at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, Born in Buffalo, New York, on November 4th, 1940, Joseph De
Santo was the son of the late Rocco E. and Theresa Nittolo De Santo; he
graduated from Newark High School in 1959 and then embarked on a life
which was marked by public service to both his country and community;
and
WHEREAS, For six years, Joseph De Santo honorably served his country
as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War;
and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, Joseph De Santo
spent time in California and then returned to Newark where he began
working as Project Superintendent for the Pike Construction Company, a
position he held for over 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Joseph De Santo distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, A steadfast supporter of all types of athletics, Joseph De
Santo coached Newark Little League Baseball and Vince Lombardi Football
for many years and molded and mentored many of the youth giving everyone
a special nick name; and
WHEREAS, As a young athlete himself, Joseph De Santo was inducted into
the Newark Athletic Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Joseph De Santo's commitment to excellence and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, From 2000 to 2008, Joseph De Santo served as Town Supervisor
for the Town of Arcadia and was serving as a Town Councilman at the time
of his death; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Joseph De Santo served on the Newark Board of
Education for six years until 2014 and was the recipient of the Friend
of Education Award by the Newark School District; and
WHEREAS, Active within the community, Joseph De Santo served on
several boards of directors including Newark-Wayne Community Hospital,
Wayne ARC, Wayne County Action Program, Inc. as well as the Cornell
Extension Service; and
WHEREAS, Joseph De Santo was also a devoted member and communicant of
Saint Michael's Church in Newark; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents, Rocco E. and Theresa, Joseph De
Santo is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Judy; his brother,
Dick; three daughters, Nicole (Matthew), Shelly (Kevin) and Jaclyn
(Donnie); seven grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, Evan, Tristan, Kody,
Blake and Reagan; as well as several nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Joseph De Santo leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Joseph De Santo, dedicated coach, distinguished citi-
zen and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Joseph De Santo.
