LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gerald Wright upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award by the
Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Gerald Wright has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gerald Wright
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2016 Lifetime
Achievement Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce to be celebrated
at its 31st Annual Awards Dinner on Friday, April 8, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce works to foster a positive
business environment in Bethlehem and the surrounding region through
partnerships with local, county and state officials and community organ-
izations, and, each year, proudly honors those in the community, such as
Gerald Wright, who help to further these goals; and
WHEREAS, In 1949, Gerald Wright's father, the late Robert E. Wright,
started Robert Wright Disposal, Inc. to provide quality waste removal
services to the community; after 67 years in business, the Company,
located in Slingerlands, New York, is still a private, family-owned
business, which is now operated by Gerald, his wife Susan, and grandson,
Robert D. Wright; and
WHEREAS, Gerald Wright employs 20 people and provides residential
waste removal services to residents of the Town of Bethlehem, Town of
Coeymans, Town of New Scotland, and the Villages of Ravena and Voorhees-
ville; sister company, Cart Away, provides roll-off containers for
construction, demolition, and household clean-outs; and
WHEREAS, Some of Gerald Wright's achievements during his illustrious
career, include working with the Town of Bethlehem to implement single
stream recycling and working hand-in-hand with officials from the Town
of New Scotland to privatize trash removal in their town; he is current-
ly coordinating with the City of Albany to provide information on auto-
mated collection services; and
WHEREAS, Gerald Wright has also provided the Bethlehem Central Middle
School with recycling bins for every classroom, and donates dumpster
deliveries for the town's Hazardous Waste and Recycling Days and Spring
Cleanup events; and
WHEREAS, Gerald Wright has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A long-time sponsor of many sports teams including Tri-Vil-
lage Little League, Bethlehem Tomboys Girls Softball League, Basketball,
Cross Country, Track and Field and the Soccerplex, Gerald Wright
contributes to field signs and advertising during the season; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Gerald Wright has supported local community
organizations such as To Life! and the Tri-Village Nursery School as
well as the Bethlehem Central High School's Senior Celebration and the
Lady Eagles Invitational; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Gerald Wright has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Susan, who feels priv-
ileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Gerald Wright has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gerald Wright upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gerald Wright.
