LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Will vonWedel upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2016 Community Spirit Award by the Beth-
lehem Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Will vonWedel has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Will vonWedel
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2016 Community
Spirit Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce to be celebrated at
its 31st Annual Awards Dinner on Friday, April 8, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1957, the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce works
on a local and regional level to advance economic development and foster
a positive business environment; it offers resources for residents,
business, recreation and relocation in Bethlehem and the surrounding
region; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Selkirk, New York, Will vonWedel is active in
the Bethlehem community through his involvement with a variety of organ-
izations, in addition to having a full-time career with Spiral Design
Studios; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Will vonWedel is in his sixth year as the Presi-
dent of the Bethlehem Girls Basketball Club, an organization which
offers girls in third through eighth grades a safe and fun environment
to develop fundamental and advanced basketball skills, while emphasizing
sportsmanship, building confidence, fair play, discipline and teamwork;
and
WHEREAS, In his role as President, Will vonWedel organizes try-outs,
AAU spring basketball, Summer League play, summer camps, and Fall Open
Gym; he is responsible for coordinating all gym time for practices and
games, and for scheduling referees; and
WHEREAS, This past year, nearly 90 girls participated on eight teams,
ranking the Bethlehem Girls Basketball Club as the second largest
basketball program in the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Will vonWedel is a member of the Board of Direc-
tors for the Bethlehem Boys Basketball Club, where he assists on game
days to run game clocks or to help out at the concession stand; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Will vonWedel has served on the Board of Direc-
tors of the Tri-Village Little League for four years, where he worked
the concessions stand, handled referee payments, and helped maintain the
fields by raking, mowing, and re-lining; and
WHEREAS, Will vonWedel has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Will vonWedel has been known as a
leader who is always willing to listen, roll up his sleeves and get the
job done; his involvement with each of these organizations has resulted
in the continued betterment of the Bethlehem community; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Will vonWedel has displayed through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Will vonWedel upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of

the 2016 Community Spirit Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Will vonWedel.
