LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Greg and Thomasine Helsmoortel upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the 2016 Community
Service Award by the HealthAlliance Foundation

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Greg and Thomasine Helsmoortel have given not only of their
time and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leader-
ship and consequently have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Greg and
Thomasine Helsmoortel upon the occasion of their designation as recipi-
ents of the 2016 Community Service Award by the HealthAlliance Founda-
tion, to be celebrated at its 27th Annual Tulip Ball held on Wednesday,
April 20, 2016, at the Lazy Swan Golf & Country Club Village in Sauger-
ties, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year the HealthAlliance Foundation of Kingston, New York
proudly honors those individuals who have contributed to the well-being
and vitality of their community at its Annual Tulip Ball; and
WHEREAS, Greg and Thomasine Helsmoortel are being presented with the
Community Service Award in recognition of their work as pillars of the
community and for their dedicated involvement in numerous worthy causes;
and
WHEREAS, Life-long residents of Ulster County, Greg and Thomasine
Helsmoortel were born and raised in Saugerties, New York and have each
displayed a long history of serving their neighbors, both personally and
professionally, while playing an active role in the local small business
economy; and
WHEREAS, Greg Helsmoortel has ably served the Town of Saugerties as
its elected Supervisor, achieving numerous accomplishments including the
expansion of the Empire Development Zone to cover more local businesses
and the inclusion of Saugerties as the Greenway Community; he also
secured funding for both a Saugerties Skate Park and the Glasco Water
Park, and worked closely with Horse Shows In The Sun in order to bring
this world class venue to the town; and
WHEREAS, Thomasine Helsmoortel is the owner of Helsmoortel Realty and
an active supporter of the Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce,
the Saugerties Chamber of Commerce and the Ulster County SPCA; she also
serves on the Boards of the HealthAlliance Foundation and the Saugerties
Girls Community Club, and is a past member of the Kingston-Saugerties
Boys and Girls Club Board; and
WHEREAS, Greg and Thomasine Helsmoortel have contributed their time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and have always
given of themselves unstintingly; they have both devoted countless hours
to ensuring the success of many activities in Saugerties, including the
popular Mum Festival, Garlic Festival, Artists Studio Tour, Christmas in
the Village and Jazz Festival, as well as the Saugerties American Legion
and events at Saugerties High School; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed couple were also an integral part of the
committee to raise funds for the weekend long celebration commemorating
the 25th anniversary of resident Roger Donlon receiving the Congression-
al Medal of Honor; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Greg and Thomasine are passionate supporters of
local sports, and have sponsored numerous Saugerties Athletic Associ-
ation teams and events, including the organization's largest annual fund
raiser, the SAA Golf Tournament and the Saugerties Dutchmen Baseball
Team; and

WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their four children, Jessica,
Ryan, Chris and Scott, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of their
parents' lives and rejoice in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Greg and Thomasine Helsmoortel have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Greg and Thomasine Helsmoortel upon the occasion of their desig-
nation as recipients of the 2016 Community Service Award; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Greg and Thomasine Helsmoortel.
