LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating John F. Kennedy Catholic High
School upon the occasion of celebrating its 50th Anniversary

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
significant milestones in the distinguished histories of its esteemed
educational institutions; and
WHEREAS, John F. Kennedy Catholic High School will celebrate its 50th
Anniversary during its annual President's Dinner to be held at the West-
chester Marriott on Thursday, April 21, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Kennedy High School opened as St. Mary's High School in 1924;
St. Mary's graduated its last class in June of 1966; and
WHEREAS, The school re-opened as John F. Kennedy Catholic High School
in September of 1966; and
WHEREAS, Kennedy High School, in Somers, is a Roman Catholic, coeduca-
tional college preparatory school serving students in grades 9 through
12; and
WHEREAS, Kennedy High School's mission statement states "We are Kenne-
dy Catholic. We are strong and committed Christian leaders who are
determined to make a difference for Christ in our world and the lives of
others. Through the development of mind, body and spirit we will strive
always for excellence and the highest standards in Catholic education.
We are courageous and compassionate - We are Kennedy Catholic!; and
WHEREAS, The students of Kennedy High School, home of the Gaels, are
greatly inspired by the extraordinary teachers, staff, and faculty, led
by President and Principal Father Mark Vaillancourt; and
WHEREAS, Kennedy High School has an outstanding reputation for its
curriculum, athletics, and other extracurricular activities; and
WHEREAS, Kennedy High School is proudly aware of its distinguished
past, eager to fulfill its present commitment to parents, students and
the community, and planning with vision and purpose for the ebb and
swell of growth and change it will encounter in the years to come; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate John F. Kennedy Catholic High School upon the occasion of
celebrating its 50th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Father Mark Vaillancourt, President and Principal, Kennedy
High School.
