LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Fahim Mojawalla upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2015 Citizen of the Year Award for
Community Leadership by the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce on April
28, 2016
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Fahim Mojawalla has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Fahim Mojawal-
la upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2015 Citizen
of the Year Award for Community Leadership by the Grand Island Chamber
of Commerce to be celebrated at its Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday,
April 28, 2016, at Byblos Niagara Resort and Spa in Grand Island, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Citizen of the Year Award is presented annually to busi-
nesses and individuals whose contributions have made Grand Island, New
York, a better place to live; and
WHEREAS, Fahim Mojawalla was born in Mumbai, India, and moved with his
family to New York City when he was three years old; he went to school
in Long Island, and in 2002, he graduated from the State University of
New York at Stony Brook with an honors degree in Economics and a minor
in Business Management; and
WHEREAS, In 2005, Fahim Mojawalla moved to Grand Island with his moth-
er, wife, and five children; a year later, he opened Island Ship Center,
popularly known as The Spa of Shipping, an experienced-based retail
shipping outlet, business center, and unique gift store; and
WHEREAS, On Tuesday, April 5, 2016, the popular and successful busi-
ness, Island Ship Center, celebrated its 10th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Fahim Mojawalla has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless charitable endeavors and has always given of
himself unstintingly; he has been recognized for his leadership and
generosity, and for his promotion of community events; and
WHEREAS, Along with his wife, Seema, Fahim Mojawalla is very involved
in the Association of Mail & Business Centers, and volunteers on the
AMBC Board of Directors as Social Media Director; he is also the Vice
President of the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce, helping connect other
local businesses with social media trends; and
WHEREAS, Fahim Mojawalla shares motivational quotes through his Face-
book, Twitter and Instagram pages, and uses plenty of hashtags to keep
track of online activity; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, Fahim was recognized for his involvement with the
community by being awarded the Excellence in Education Award; his new
video, "Get SMart with Fahim", is about learning the art of Social Media
and was launched on YouTube on April 2, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Fahim Mojawalla loves being able to live and work on Grand
Island, so that he can spend a lot of time with his kids during after
school activities; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Fahim Mojawalla has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Fahim Mojawalla upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2015 Citizen of the Year Award for Community Leadership by the
Grand Island Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Fahim Mojawalla.
