LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Islettes' Elite Majorettes upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the 2015 Citizen of the
Year Award for Organization by the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce on
April 28, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, The Islettes' Elite Majorettes have given not only of their
time and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leader-
ship and consequently have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the Islettes'
Elite Majorettes upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the 2015 Citizen of the Year Award for Organization by the Grand Island
Chamber of Commerce to be celebrated at its Annual Awards Dinner on
Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Byblos Niagara Resort and Spa in Grand
Island, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Citizen of the Year Award is presented annually to busi-
nesses and individuals whose contributions have made Grand Island, New
York, a better place to live; and
WHEREAS, A faith-based dance twirl team, the Islettes' Elite Major-
ettes, has celebrated 30 years of excellence in artistic sport perform-
ance; its members range in age from two up, and learn Christian sports-
manship, team spirit, athleticism, showmanship, rhythm, responsibility
and confidence; and
WHEREAS, The goal of the Islettes' Elite Majorettes is to perform at
local, state and regional parades and events in order to build character
and community while teaching valuable life lessons to children; they
proudly carry the Grand Island name across the United States of America;
and
WHEREAS, Three-time-honored performers at Walt Disney World in Orlan-
do, Florida, the Islettes' Elite Majorettes are also past recipients of
Walt Disney Twirl Mania Corps and Team Championships; its members have
competed at the National Championships in Indiana, and they have won 17
out of 20 National titles; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, the Islettes' Elite Majorettes and Director, Heidi
Sue McCormick, were honored upon the occasion of their induction into
the New York State Twirling Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, For over 30 years, more than 200 twirlers and percussionists
have participated as members in the Islettes' Elite Majorettes family-
oriented organization; alumni have gone on to perform at national sport-
ing events and as featured college twirlers, receiving numerous scholar-
ships; some have even gone on to become coaches themselves; and
WHEREAS, The Islettes' Elite Majorettes have been called upon to
contribute their time and talents to countless charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; they have been recognized
for their generosity and for their promotion of community events; and
WHEREAS, The Islettes' Elite Majorettes put in many hours of practice
throughout the year while also completing many hours of community
service and maintaining honors grades; all staff members are volunteers,
and are lifelong Grand Island residents who have grown up as members of
the team; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, the Islettes' Elite Majorettes have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a

long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Islettes' Elite Majorettes upon the occasion of their desig-
nation as recipients of the 2015 Citizen of the Year Award for Organiza-
tion by the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Director, Heidi Sue McCormick, and to the members of the
Islettes' Elite Majorettes.
